2016 Saipan Young Professional of the Year- Janel V. Pangelinan of Pacifica Insurance Underwriters, Inc. 

The Saipan Young Professionals Committee has announced that Janel V. Pangelinan of Pacifica Insurance Underwriters, Inc. has been chosen as the recipient of the 2016 Saipan Young Professional of the Year Award. The announcement was made at the SYP “Seas’n Greetings” Christmas Party held on Thursday, December 15th at the Barefoot Beach Bar, Kanoa Resort Saipan. The Saipan Young Professionals recognized Ms. Pangelinan’s outstanding leadership and dedication to serving the community both personally and professionally.

Janel is mother of four beautiful daughters and blessed with the full support of her entire family, she is determined to balance motherhood and profession. While attending the Northern Marianas College from 2009 to 2011, she was inducted into Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.  The following semester, she was nominated and later sworn in as an officer.  Helping coordinate and volunteer, she devoted her free time to community events such as beautification projects and youth affairs.  For the duration of her studies at NMC, she worked at the Adult Basic Education department tutoring individuals dedicated to receiving their diploma in order to start their journey to a successful career path. 

In 2011, she was blessed to become a part of a new family she considers her second home: Pacifica Insurance Underwriters, Inc. She started as an underwriter, became head of the broker department, and assisted with marketing and networking. In addition, she has conducted presentations for many Government agencies introducing their health insurance plan, as well as career presentations and class observations in relation to the insurance industry. She has devoted time giving back to the community.

Janel Pangelinan is currently a claims examiner at Pacifica Insurance Underwriters, Inc. She is a co-chair of the Events Committee of the Saipan Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Marianas Young Professionals Organization. She also actively participates in various volunteer efforts and programs with her employer, Pacifica Insurance Underwriters, Inc.

The evening also honored other outstanding SYP members: SYP CO-Chair Zachariah Johnson (PSS), Kristal Johnson (PSS), Emanuel Borja (Hofschneider Engineering), and Jacqueline Fujihira (Imperial Pacific). The surprise “2016 Saipan Young Professional Rookie of the Year” was awarded to N15 Architects’ Lester John Babauta. Mr. Babauta joined the committee early this year and has displayed dedication and commitment to the group. SYP mentors: Donna Krum (Friends First Marketing/Paradise Dental Center), Tyrell Pauling (Hyatt Regency Saipan), and Beau Tomokane (Delta Airlines), were also recognized with a Certificate of Appreciation from the SYP.

“Throughout the year, the Saipan Young Professionals have made efforts to create and build relationship with our Chamber members. We have had the privilege of working with our mentors and appreciate them lending their expertise and resources to advance our organization” said one SYP member. Paradise Dental Center as well as Pacifica Insurance Underwriters, Inc. were also recognized for hosting the SYP networking events.

The Committee would like to encourage young professionals on the island to consider joining the Saipan Young Professionals Committee as an avenue of growth and opportunity. The SYP “Seas’n Greetings” Party featured fun games, entertainment, raffle prize drawings and the announcement of the 2016 Saipan Young Professional Awards. The Committee also teamed up with Karidat Social Services, donating toys for their “Toys 4 Tots” drive. Their donation will be made to the non-profit organization within this week.

2015 Saipan Young Professional of the Year- Christopher A. Concepcion of Delta Air Lines

The Saipan Young Professionals Committee has announced that Christopher A. Concepcion, Sales Account Executive for Delta Air Lines, has been chosen as the recipient of the 2015 Saipan Young Professional of the Year Award. The announcement was made at the SYP “Hafa Adai” Christmas Party held on Saturday, December 12th at the Barefoot Bar, Kanoa Resort Saipan.

“We’re pleased to present the first Saipan Young Professional of the Year award recognizing Mr. Concepcion’s outstanding leadership and dedication to serving the community both personally and professionally,” says SYP Chairwoman Mable Ayuyu. “Mr. Concepcion has demonstrated his commitment to truly serving his community,” she adds.  Chris Concepcion currently serves as a Board Member of the Commonwealth Utilities Corporation and the Saipan Chamber of Commerce. He is also a member of the Saipan Young Professionals Committee, the Marianas Tourism Educational Council and the Marianas March Against Cancer Organizing Committee. In 2014, Concepcion was chosen as a member of the Inaugural Class of the Pacific Century Fellows – Marianas Chapter. Within the same year, he was named in Guam Business Magazine’s “40 Under 40” annual issue, featuring the top young professionals within the CNMI and Guam. He also actively participates in various volunteer efforts and programs with his employer, Delta Air Lines.

“We congratulate Chris Concepcion on this well-deserved award and thank him for the countless hours of service he commits each year to the community and particularly to our Committee,” says Ayuyu.

The evening also honored other outstanding SYP members and a community leader. Jiana Camacho of the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation received the distinguished “SYP Volunteer of the Year Award” for her consistent dedication to volunteering with organizations including the NMI Chapter of the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army.

Recipients for the SYP special awards include Glen Hunter of CNMI C.O.R.E. , Recipient for the “SYP Community Leader Award”, Jeaniffer Cubangbang of the CNMI Public School System, Recipient of the “SYP Attendance Award” and Tyler Yoshimoto, Recipient of the “SYP Education Award”. The Committee would like to recognize and thank the award nominees including John Hirsch of the American Red Cross and Emanuel Borja of Hofschneider Engineering.

“We’re proud to have an awards ceremony that allows us to highlight and recognize young and vibrant leaders today. This is a way for us to promote a more active network of young professionals to be proactive and to be involved in the growth and development of our islands,” says Ayuyu.
