2018- USS Benfold

The Saipan Chamber of commerce welcomed the USS Benfold to Saipan on Monday, September 24, 2108. It was the first time the navy vessel docked on Saipan waters.

The Armed Forces Committee of the Saipan Chamber of Commerce hosted a welcoming reception for USS Benfold on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at Godfather’s Bar from 5:30pm-7:00pm. Chamber Board of Directors and members welcomed USS Benfold Captain Mitchell and more than forty of his service members. The Chamber presented Captain Mitchell with chamber baseball caps and Chamber Board of Directors President Velma Palacios received a ship coin in exchange. MINA Executive Director Roberta Guerrero also presented a cap on behalf of MINA.

Following the night of the reception, the Chamber Armed Forces Committee organized a beach clean-up for the crew in partnership with the Micronesia Islands Nature Alliance (MINA) on Thursday, September 27, 2018. With the clean-up geared to assist service members with their community relations project, more than 30 service members from the USS Benfold gathered at Tank Beach in Kagman III. Also present were MINA volunteers and members of the Chamber Environmental Committee and Saipan Young Professionals.

MINA generously provided volunteers with t-shirts, trash bags, gloves, and bottled water. “We are excited to organize this clean-up for visiting service-members taking this as an opportunity to educate visitors about our island through beautification projects such as this” said MINA Executive Director, Roberta Guerrero.
